HS Girls Tournament Report – October 25

We made the trek up to Malden, MA on another beautiful Fall day to play in a 3 team round robin with Mystic River and Aspetuck. We teamed up with our friends from Ridgefield to have a total roster of 12. I am impressed with our players as we had girls from 8 different high schools playing together as 1 team and playing well.

In our first match of the day we played Mystic River, and we got off to a fast start with Katie taking the kickoff back for a try. We dominated this game with our strong forwards and speedy backs. Final score was 34-10 with tries from Katie, Lune and Nidhi. Katie converted 2 of the 6 tries scored.

Next up we faced Aspetuck and held our own with them in the first half as a try and conversion from Katie had us tied at half time. We came out a bit flat in the second half, making a few errors which Aspetuck capitalized on. Final Score was 26-7

Match 3 was against Mysti River again and after a slow start from playing back-to-back we outran them in the 2nd half winning 29-10 with tries from Katie and Luna and 2 conversions from Katie.

Our last game against Aspetuck was cancelled as the trainer had to leave to deal with an emergency.

Everyone really played well on the day. Gigi had some strong runs up the middle and Kiva made some big tackles on defense. Congrats to Zoe, who had many breakaways and tackles, and Katie for scoring 8 tries on being named Ruggers of the Match.

Thanks to Mystic River for hosting.

Thank you to the parents for getting the kids up there. It was a long day for all and I won’t talk about the traffic on the way home.

Thanks to Coach George for his fine organization skills and commentary and to Coach Bryan for all his help on the sidelines.

Next Sunday we are home at Indian River Rec center. Just 2 more round robins this season.

Shoreline Spartans Rugby is super affordable. Thanks to our fundraising efforts and sponsorships, we are able to keep costs around $200 for a full year of rugby with many players just paying $50 for a year!

BIG OPPORTUNITIES. SMALL PRICE TAGS.

When did giving your child an opportunity in sports become so expensive? It’s really gotten ridiculous.

Take a look at the numbers for North Fulton County and surrounding areas. Then take a look at Exiles Rugby Academy.

We believe opportunity shouldn’t cost thousands of dollars a year.

Rugby offers genuine college scholarship opportunities for boys and girls, with growing opportunities in the women’s game. With a smaller pool of athletes than many traditional sports, it’s a college pathway more families should be exploring.

SO HOW DOES EXILES KEEP COSTS SO LOW?

We’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, modeled after more than 150 years of traditional rugby club culture.

✅ Our experienced executives volunteer their time. No six-figure executive salaries coming out of your dues.

✅ Our World Rugby-certified volunteer coaches emphasize proper technique, age-appropriate development, and player welfare. We teach the game the right way.

✅ We’re supported by incredible local businesses, sponsors, generous donors, social members, and senior men’s and women’s players who believe in giving back.

✅ We even cover player transportation and accommodations at designated away tournaments. No surprise charges halfway through the year!

AND HERE’S SOMETHING MONEY CAN’T BUY.

Most youth sports come with an end date. Rugby doesn’t.

🏉 Youth rugby: Ages 5–18
🏉 Adult rugby: 18+
🏉 Lifelong friendships, mentorship, and a community you can always call home.

You can join Exiles as a child, grow up playing rugby, and remain part of the club long after your playing days are over.

We’re not selling seasons. We’re building Exiles for life.

READY TO GIVE RUGBY A TRY?

No experience necessary! Boys and girls ages 5–18 are welcome.

HS Girls Tournament Report – October 18

After a chilly start to the day, it turned into a perfect Fall rugby day as we hosted Ridgefield, Mystic River, Morris, Aspetuck and Greenwich on the turf field for the first time at Indian River.

Our first match of the day was against our friends from Ridgefield. It was a back-and-forth affair with Ridgefield capitalizing on a few of our errors. The game was so close no one was sure who won but we prevailed 17-15 with tries from Katie, Kiva and Lucy and Katie making one conversion kick.

Our next match was against Mystic River, and this was the best I have seen our group play as a team. Everyone contributed to this win as we moved the ball well and pressured them on defense to keep them from scoring. Final score was 32-0 with tries from Olivia, Katie, Lucy and a player from Morris helping us out with numbers. This win led to us winning our pool on the day.

Our last game was against Aspetuck and they came out firing with a ton of pressure and we struggled to really get anything going against them. Final score 36-0.

Thanks to the players from Morris and Ridgefield for helping out with our numbers in the three matches.

Shoreline 17 – Ridgefield 15
Try Scorers – Katie, Kiva and Lucy
Conversions - Katie

Shoreline 32 – Mystic River 0
Try Scorers – Olivia, Katie (3), Lucy and Morris Player
Conversions – Katie

Shoreline 0 – Aspetuck 36

Everyone really played well on the day. Hayden was terrific in the lineouts catching the ball and getting it out to Katie cleanly and quickly, Kiva and Olivia each scored their first try and had some great tackles. Katie moved back to scrum half for the day, scored many tires and saved a few tries with tackles. Lucy played flyhalf for the first time and did a great job matching up and setting the line as well as scoring twice and making many try saving tackles on defense. Ava was strong in the middle of the field, keeping things contained in the rucks and Savana anchored the front row, had a few strong tackles and played her best game to date. Congrats to Savanna and Katie for being named “Ruggers of the Match”

As I mentioned this was the first time, we have played games at the turf field, and it was a collective effort to pull it off. Thanks to Coach Bryan for taking on the task of fabricating the uprights and flag bases as well as installing them with the help of Coach Nate. Thanks to Coach Mike and the HS boys for running touch, retrieving balls on the conversion kicks and for selling raffle tickets to the folks there. Thanks to all who helped break down the field and clean up.

Thank you to coaches Bryan and Lily for all the help on the sidelines and to Coach Sofia for stopping by. Thank you to Craig for taking photos, you can find them in the team media section on Sportsyou.

Thank you to Ava’s family for picking up the pizzas and to all the families who provided desserts for the post-match social.

Thank you to our fans who were there to cheer us on. It was great to see former HS Girl’s coaches Kristen and Cierra there.
