GBX Group is sponsoring Preservation North Carolina’s 2026 Annual Conference, taking place October 25–27 in High Point, NC!

This year’s conference brings together preservation professionals, community leaders, and advocates to explore North Carolina’s historic places through guided tours, educational sessions, and conversations about the opportunities and challenges facing historic preservation today.

We’re excited to support an event that brings people together to share ideas, learn from one another, and find new ways to keep historic buildings an active part of their communities.

Welcome to our new series, Preserving the Past, where we explore the history behind GBX's preservation projects and celebrate the stories behind these historic places.

First up: Waikiki Village in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. 🌴

Built in 1963 during Myrtle Beach's "Golden Era," Waikiki Village is a mid-century modern motel best known for its Hawaiian-style hut. The 43-room motel and its courtyard have remained remarkably true to their original design, preserving the vintage island-inspired charm of the property.

Giving back to the community, one mile at a time! 🏃‍♂️🍂

The GBX Group team recently volunteered at the 2026 Towpath Marathon, supporting runners and cheering them on as they made their way through Cleveland!

Hosted by Canalway Partners, this annual event brought the community together while supporting the continued development and preservation of the Towpath Trail, Canal Basin Park, and the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area.

Our team had a great time supporting an event that celebrates Cleveland's outdoor spaces, brings people together, and helps strengthen the community we call home. Congratulations to all the runners and thank you to Canalway Partners for organizing a great event!

At this year's NorthCoast 99 Awards, Catherine Zelenkofske, Director of People Operations, accepted GBX's Special Category Award for Total Rewards, recognizing the company's ongoing commitment to creating a workplace where employees are supported, recognized, and rewarded.

As highlighted in GBX's recent press release and the Top of the Charts feature, the award reflects the company's evolving approach to Total Rewards. From competitive compensation and professional development opportunities to meaningful recognition and a culture rooted in accountability, GBX continues to invest in the success of its team.

Catherine shared how GBX's redesigned bonus program strengthens the connection between individual performance and company goals through Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and quarterly performance reviews. The program also recognizes leadership development, volunteer involvement, and employees' overall contributions, providing greater transparency while continuing to reward high performance.

As Catherine noted, "We hire smart, driven, good individuals"—a philosophy that continues to shape GBX's culture and commitment to investing in its people. Congratulations to our entire team on this recognition and for making GBX a great place to grow, succeed, and make a lasting impact.
