Patty and John have one of the more interesting home search stories I’ve been part of. They sold their home in Charlotte during COVID, bought an RV, and spent the next four years traveling around the US and Canada!

Then came some exciting family news: a grandbaby was on the way, and they decided it was time for the RV adventure to come to an end.

They wanted to put down roots somewhere between their kids in North Carolina and Northern Virginia, but they weren’t ready to give up the adventure completely. Mountains, privacy, outdoor access, and a beautiful setting were all high on the list.

When 99 Bluff Mountain Road came on the market, we were immediately excited. The views and setting checked so many boxes, and we also knew we were going to have competition. With multiple offers on the table, we tightened up our terms, put together a strong offer, and got it done. Congratulations, you two!

Trust the Progess🔨

One of the things I love about newer construction is the clean slate. The challenge is figuring out how to make a home feel like yours when so many nearby homes started with a similar floor plan and finish package.

Over time, we’ve made a lot of small and not-so-small changes to our own home to give each space more personality.

We added board and batten along the staircase and paired it with a new chandelier. In the basement, we built in a custom entertainment center. We’ve used different paint colors throughout the house so each room has its own feel, painted the built-ins in our main living room and added walnut tops, and gave the mudroom built-ins a fresh new look too.

None of these projects changed the bones of the house. They just made it feel more layered, intentional, and personal. That’s the fun part of taking a builder-grade home and making it your own. You don’t necessarily need a massive renovation. Sometimes it’s millwork, lighting, paint, built-ins, and a few thoughtful details that make the biggest difference.

One of the many reasons we love living in Charlottesville!

Our family spent the last couple of days at UVA’s Pro-Am swim meet, watching some of the best swimmers in the world compete right here in our backyard.

Katie Ledecky, Caeleb Dressel, Kate Douglass, Alex and Gretchen Walsh, and so many other Olympic athletes. Pretty incredible to have this kind of access to world-class athletics in our little community.

Just another reminder of what makes Charlottesville such a special place to call home! 🏊‍♂️

Just sold in Palmyra 🏡

My clients are retired and were ready for a move that brought them closer to their son, daughter-in-law, and grandkids.
Their wish list was pretty specific. They wanted a little bit of land, but not so much that it became a full-time job. They needed space for their RV, a large garage, and room for a workshop since he’s a blacksmith and has plenty of tools and equipment.

We had been looking on and off for quite a while. Then this gem came on the market, and it was almost too perfect.

Less than four years after getting my Virginia license, I cracked the Top 50 agents in our MLS, out of more than 4,200 agents who have closed a transaction in 2026.

After practicing real estate in Chicago since 2009, moving our family 1,000 miles and starting over was a leap of faith. Bringing Compass to Charlottesville was an idea, a lot of conversations, and a belief that this market was ready for something different. My clients relocated to Charlottesville from Baltimore and chose a beautiful new home in Brookhill. They had a great time going through the design process, and I enjoyed helping them make smart decisions along the way about which upgrades were worth the money and which ones they could skip and do later.

I also love a good blue tape walkthrough!

I’ve sold and built a lot of new construction over the years, and I genuinely enjoy the process and blue taping the sh*t out of houses. I have a keen eye for the little imperfections, but more importantly, I know what to look for, what we should ask the builder to address (everything), what’s worth pushing on, what’s not, and how to navigate the process from contract through closing.

Buying new construction can look easy, but there are a lot of decisions, nuances, and issues between picking a homesite and getting the keys. Having someone in your corner who has been through the process many times can make a big difference.

This is exactly the kind of move I love helping clients make. A wonderful young family with three kids decided they were ready to leave the faster pace of Northern Virginia behind, find a larger home, and put down roots somewhere with a little more breathing room.

They found it at 261 Blue Ridge Drive, a beautiful 1948 brick home with six (6!) bedrooms, mountain views, plenty of room for their family, and the ability to walk into downtown Orange.
