MECKLENBURG COUNTY HOMEOWNERS — HELP WITH YOUR PROPERTY TAX BILL

Rising home costs hitting your wallet? Mecklenburg County (in partnership with the Town of Davidson) offers a grant program designed to help — the HOMES program (Helping Out Mecklenburg's homeowners with Economic Support).

✅ What it does: Pays a portion of your property tax bill directly to the Mecklenburg County Tax Collector
✅ How much: Up to $650 for Mecklenburg County residents (Town of Davidson residents may qualify for an additional $554)
✅ Who qualifies:
• Property must be in Mecklenburg County
• Must be your legal primary residence for the past 3 consecutive years
• Your name must be on the deed, title, or life estate
• Household income must fall within HUD limits (based on family size)
• No more than one delinquent tax bill in the past three years
• Must apply annually — no age requirement, and your home doesn't have to be paid off

📋 Income limits range from $62,850 (1 person) up to $118,500 (8 people) — see the full chart on the county website.

🟢 APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN NOW! Have your 2025 income verification documents ready (W-2, 1099s, SSI, etc.). Funds are awarded in the order applications are received until they're exhausted, so don't wait — apply today!

🚨 HOMEOWNERS: Your Property May Not Be As Protected As You Think 🚨

Most people assume that if someone tries to steal their property, the county will stop it. Unfortunately, that's not always the case.

Deed fraud is becoming a growing problem across the country. Criminals can file fraudulent documents, transfer ownership records, and create costly legal battles for the rightful owner. In many states, there is little to no verification that the person signing a deed is actually authorized to do so.

How do we fix it?

By encouraging our Governors, State Representatives, and State Senators to introduce legislation that strengthens deed fraud protections and requires better verification before property ownership can be transferred.
