Mobile Hope needs help!

Hi everyone! This isn't a typical 8th & Home post but Mobile Hope could really use your help. Donna Fortier and her team are absolutely amazing and the work they do in Loudoun County is needed. Please read the following plea and if you are in a position to be of help, please call Donna/team at (703) 771-1400.

* * *

We are urgently reaching out to you today asking for your help with something that continues to grow... housing options for our 18 to 24 year old "kids".

Summer is fast approaching, which means we will continue to see an increase in "our kids" who are homeless...

While we thought we found a "permanent and safe" home for our 24 year old autistic fella, that is no longer an option... so we are in dire need of options for him. He is a very sweet, mild mannered and observant young man who is eager to start a life of self dependence. He is very artistic and we are proudly displaying his artwork on the walls of our office. He is helpful, polite and so thankful and appreciative.

Over the last 24 hours, we have become involved with ADDITIONAL clients that are also in desperate need of housing.

One younger lady, who came to us last night, is 18 years old, preparing for her high school graduation, but was kicked out of her home with no options provided by the family. We are currently housing her in a hotel and taking her to school, so she can enjoy, what should be a huge and wonderful milestone in her life. She has goals of attending college and (right now) wants to major in IT. She is an excellent student who is coming to terms with having to jump into an adult life quicker than she probably thought.

Another client who has walked through our doors over the last 2 days, is no longer able to "couch surf" on her friends sofa. She is a 21 year old mom, with a 4 year old son. She recently aged out of Foster Care, but has been living in hotels, on sofas, etc until she can find a "permanent home". She has a wonderful smile, that is evident when you wipe away the tears.

Our other client (over the last day) is a mom lovingly raising 5 kids, but while gainfully employed has been spending each of her paychecks to pay for an extended stay hotel. She too is trying her hardest to provide a loving home for her children... but truly living paycheck to paycheck.

While these are immediate needs, please keep in mind, as we look at county housing options for our workforce, that "PRE-work force" housing needs to be a consideration.

This "PRE work force housing would allow for flexibility with first time renters who have: no established credit, no true references and no history of being on their own.

Simply because our "kids" are homeless, does not mean they are worthless or unworthy...they need opportunities, chances and non-judgmental understanding.

WE NEED OPTIONS FOR THEM

~ If you are able to cover a few nights for a hotel at $102.00 (or more) please donate now!
While hotel stays are not a permanent solution, it does allow us the extended time to look for more permanent options.

~ If you are able to offer a safe basement, empty room or a place to call home, please call us directly at (703) 771-1400.

~ If you have a business that can offer a flexible work schedule please call.

These "kids" are eager to work, thankful for the support offered and trying their hardest...it truly is a badge of honor when they come to us in their darkest times!

Please remember...they have been living in survivor mode or are trying to move out from under their parents mistakes... they didn't choose the life they were giving they were dealt it.

Thank you all so much for your kinds words, engaged and unwavering understanding and humbling support!

“Emotional, exciting, grateful. 3 words to explain the joy I’m feeling.

"For two years, my family has been barely surviving. We had our laps as dinner tables, blankets as beds, and the floor to watch our favorite TV shows and play board games and puzzles. Today, that is all changing because of donations from A Wider Circle. We now have a dining room table, cooking ware, beds, bedding, and a living room chair. Thank you so much for everyone involved with this service.”

The summer is a great time to give. Organizations like Good Shepherd Alliance receives fewer donations over the summer but the need is just as great.

Please pray for all of our residents as they seek jobs and housing. Give thanks for and congratulations to our families who are moving to permanent housing in June; their hard work has certainly paid off! Pray for our new mother and her sweet newborn and celebrate with us for our new kitchen provided through a grant and the donations of many local businesses (more coming on that soon). Summer is a low donation time so please pray for funds to pay all the bills as we are privately funded. Thank you so much!

Spencer remembered as ‘pillar of the community’ | The Southwest Times

If you ever wondered if Angels walked among us, here is a shining example of a beautiful light who has now been called home. "It is done my good and faithful servant..." Eyvonne Spencer is the mother of my sorority sister. In loving memory and celebration of her life. So thankful that she brought my wonderful friend, Lovora, into this world!

Eyvonne Spencer, who mothered more than 90 children – 85 of them foster children from 1982 to 2011 – and founded a church in Pulaski, is being remembered today as “a pillar of the community” and “a great woman of God” after her passing on Wednesday. She was 79.

Children's Miracle Network!

Megan was only 20 weeks pregnant when fetal imaging revealed that her unborn child had a heart condition called Transposition of the Great Arteries. Megan and her husband Jon came to Children's for a second opinion to confirm the diagnosis. But when they met Dr. Mary Donofrio, Director of our Fetal Heart and Critical Care Delivery Programs — well, they knew Children's was the place for them. The expecting parents were particularly impressed by Dr. Donofrio's focus on the development of the whole child, not just on the heart.

Baby Lilly was born on December 23, 2015 and had surgery on the 29th. She went home just after the new year, and according to her family, everything went smoothly. "People went above and beyond," Lilly's mom said. "For this team, it's not just a job."
