Perched on a plateau overlooking the Pacific Ocean, BioScience Property Investments’ Headquarters Point is a workplace shaped by its coastal-desert surroundings.

The design concept takes inspiration from the canyon itself. Conceived as a singular mass “pulled apart,” the two buildings occupy separate sites while maintaining a shared architectural language. Their irregular edges echo the canyon’s natural topography, while extended floorplates create deep overhangs that mitigate solar gain, protect high-performance laboratory environments, and provide shade for outdoor terraces.

A restrained palette of white concrete, aluminum, glass, and cedar reflects the tonal qualities of the surrounding landscape. Balconies blur the boundary between indoors and out, while 16-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows bring natural light deep into the workplace.

Recently recognized with a Citation Award at the AIA San Diego Design Awards, Headquarters Point demonstrates how thoughtful design can respond to its setting while supporting the complex demands of a science-focused workplace.

The PetroChina Advanced Materials Research Institute is the first project established in the Science and Technology District of Shanghai’s Lingang Special Area. Dedicated to research in advanced materials for fields including healthcare, energy, and aerospace, the institute brings a specialized research program to the district.

Two interlocking volumes wrap landscaped courtyards that bring daylight and nature inside, while public plazas connect the building to the city and riverfront. Horizontal bands across the facade evoke the pages of a book, symbolizing the steady accumulation of scientific knowledge. Inside, an open staircase links the atrium, exhibition spaces, auditorium, library, and laboratories across multiple levels. By bringing researchers together along shared circulation routes and in communal spaces, the building makes interdisciplinary exchange part of everyday research.

Welcome to Jeronimo Faria Lima.

Located in São Paulo, this corporate tower reimagines the relationship between the workplace and the public realm. Defined by two stacked volumes, the design integrates a series of shared spaces and connections that extend beyond the building itself, creating a more engaging experience for both occupants and the surrounding community.

A screen-printed glass facade establishes the tower’s distinctive identity, while a sunken plaza brings cafés and social spaces into the building’s lower level. Above, a pedestrian bridge and elevated garden strengthen connections between the building and the surrounding streets, weaving landscape and public space into the experience of the workplace.

A big thank you to designboom for the feature. Read the full story: https://www.designboom.com/architecture/garden-perkinswill-sao-paulo-office-tower-two-stacked-volumes-jeronimo-faria-lima/

: Neuroarchitecture.

Neuroarchitecture is based on a simple yet powerful idea: the spaces we inhabit influence our brains, emotions, and behaviors, often in ways we may not realize. Thoughtful design can shape how we feel, think, and interact with our surroundings, creating environments that support well-being, reduce stress, improve focus, and strengthen our connection to the world around us. Explore projects putting these principles into practice below.

Featured Projects:

1. Nicklaus Children's Hospital, 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝗖. 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿: A garden serves as an oasis for recovery, with curvilinear seating, layered planting, water, and reclaimed bronze sculptures creating a meaningful connection to nature.

2. MUSC Children’s Health, 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝘄𝗻 𝗝𝗲𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹: A sensory room, rooftop green space, art, and areas of privacy help make this one of the most “spectrum-friendly” hospitals in the U.S.

3. 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆: Colorful nooks and tutor rooms for quiet study punctuate open collaboration areas, while each grade level has access to its own collaboration space and adjacent outdoor lab.

4. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗳 𝗟𝗼𝗲𝗳𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗻: Balconies, abundant daylight, and amenities such as bike parking, a gym, and co-working areas expand the possibilities of compact living. The design helps residents feel connected to both their neighbors and the surrounding urban environment.

5. Cognizant: Adaptable environments allow individuals to tailor their surroundings to their working styles and preferences, supporting focus, comfort, and cognitive performance.

6. University of Rochester Medicine, 𝗦𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿: Acoustic control and sound-absorbing materials help mitigate chronic noise exposure, reducing stress and physiological strain.

7. Family Tree Clinic: Nature-inspired imagery, outdoor access, and refuge spaces promote calm, support self-esteem, and foster a sense of control.

8. 𝗩𝗜𝗔 𝗢𝘀𝗹𝗼: Pedestrians are offered a calm, sheltered connection between main streets, with plazas featuring plants and art that create opportunities for restoration and connection.

Duracell’s new Global Innovation Center for R&D at Science Square Labs in Atlanta is officially complete!

This project represents a major investment in the future of battery innovation. Spanning approximately 83,000 square feet across four floors, the facility brings together advanced laboratories, testing environments, and collaborative workplace settings.

The design takes inspiration from Duracell’s iconic battery, translating its recognizable form and signature colors into a distinctive workplace experience. Warm, rich tones and subtle brand expressions are woven throughout the space. Outdoor amenities, including the adjacent green roof and terraces, along with biophilic elements and hospitality-inspired gathering areas, create an environment centered on employee well-being.

Congratulations to the project team, Samantha Melcher, Gregory Levy, Mark Joyner, Fiorella Caras, and Nicole Sheffield. Thank you to Duracell for trusting us to bring this vision to life!

University of Georgia’s new Track & Field Complex is raising the bar for collegiate track and field venues.

Spanning 37 acres, the complex draws inspiration from the motion and precision inherent to the sport, translating speed and movement into a cohesive architectural language through sweeping forms, dynamic circulation, and a dramatic grandstand canopy.

The project recently received a Jury Award in the Architecture and Interior Design category at the 2026 AIA Aspire Design Awards, a regional program recognizing design excellence across the southeastern United States. Thank you to everyone who helped bring this project to life!

Kaiser Borsari Hall at Western Washington University has set a new standard for sustainable higher education architecture. Steeped in the Pacific Northwest context, the building is made almost entirely of wood, including a mass timber structure and shou sugi ban facade. The biogenic materials and proximity to a forest preserve connect the building to nature, creating a biophilic learning environment shaped by research into neurodiversity.

Certified Zero Energy and Zero Carbon through the International Living Future Institute, the building serves as a living lab where sustainability is made visible and experiential—giving students the opportunity to learn from the architecture itself and helping the university rethink how it designs infrastructure across campus.

In this installment of , Ryan Bussard and Devin Kleiner of our Seattle studio explore how Kaiser Borsari Hall is showing what’s possible when sustainability becomes part of the learning experience. We’re thrilled to celebrate the official opening of the MacIsaac Health Building at University of British Columbia!

Designed by our Vancouver studio and Danish studio (Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects), UBC’s first CAGBC Zero Carbon Building is an exemplary model of health, bringing together the MacIsaac School of Nursing, the School of Kinesiology, UBC Student Health Services, a teaching clinic, and other academic and research functions.

The architecture is inspired by both the natural Pacific Northwest setting and the immediate context of the surrounding campus. The use of local wood is celebrated through an expressed timber structure throughout the building’s public spaces, centered around a skylit atrium that serves as its vibrant social heart.

Learn how the design creates a new campus arrival experience while advancing UBC’s priorities for sustainability, Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm) engagement, and student health and well-being: https://perkinswill.com/news/ubc-macisaac-health-building-complete/

Ten years ago, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture opened its doors to the public. Since then, it has welcomed millions of visitors, touched countless lives, and become a place where generations can come together to share, celebrate, and reflect on African American history and culture.

That story extends beyond the museum’s exhibits, stories, and art—it’s embedded in the architecture itself. The building’s distinctive form was inspired by the Yoruba caryatid, a traditional West African column, while the pattern cast into the corona panels alludes to the ornate ironwork found throughout southern cities, much of it designed and fabricated by African American craftspeople. From its form to its details, the architecture is deeply rooted in heritage.

“Ten years on, the enduring power of this museum is the community it serves and reflects,” says Zena Howard, our Firmwide Cultural and Civic Practice Leader. “Generations carried the dream long before there was a building, and today that legacy lives through the partnership between the Smithsonian and the people whose stories give this place meaning. The museum continues to deepen our understanding of the American story with every person who walks through its doors.”
