Environment matters more than people sometimes realize. Spend enough time around people who talk about what they are creating instead of only what they are tolerating, and the way a person thinks about their own life begins to shift. They see someone change careers, start over, build something from nothing, leave what no longer fits, or take a chance on an idea they cannot stop thinking about, and suddenly those choices stop feeling reserved for other people.

That is the power of being around people who are actively participating in their own lives. They make possibility feel less theoretical. They remind others that a life does not have to remain the same simply because it has looked that way for a long time.

Sometimes believing something is possible begins with seeing someone close enough prove that it is.

There is something strange about packing up a life while you’re still living in it.

Tonight I packed up the last of the decor from one room. Nothing dramatic happened. No big revelation. I folded things, wrapped things, put them in boxes, and checked another thing off the list.
But I caught myself thinking about how often we assume that starting over is one big decision.

It isn’t.

Sometimes it’s a box. Sometimes it’s a phone call.

Sometimes it’s finally taking something off the wall that you’ve looked at for years. Sometimes it’s deciding what comes with you… and what doesn’t.

And sometimes you don’t know yet.

I think I’ve spent a lot of time believing I needed to know where I was going before I could take the next step.

I’m learning that’s backwards.

Maybe you just need enough light to see the next thing.
Not the whole road.
Just the next thing.

“No matter what happens today, I can handle it…” I’ve tried this and it does help so much! Is it a miracle cure for mind-screwing yourself - no. But if it can help with just the smaller things, it will keep you from going off the deep end on bigger things. Try it.

Not get your s**t together.
Not become the best version of yourself.
And definitely not here are the 10 steps to rebuilding your life.

Maybe right now you only have the energy for one phone call.
Maybe you have $20.
Maybe you finally have enough courage to open the envelope you’ve been avoiding.
Maybe you only have enough capacity to figure out what hurts the most today.

Start there.

Not everything.
Not the whole mountain.
Just what is actually possible from where you are.

A few days ago, I put a door on a plastic shed.
That sentence sounds ridiculous even as I write it.

A year ago, I wouldn't have thought twice about it. Lately? It felt like climbing Everest.

The door had been off its hinge for months. I walked past it daily, thinking, "I need to fix that."

I struggled with it far longer than I'd like to admit. Pulling out tools I thought would help me pop this bolt/hinge onto the piece that allows the door to swing. Sweat soaking my clothes and rolling down my face. Eventually, I figured it out! A complete “DUH” moment.
I’m gonna get this door on finally!

Just as I was trying to get the door in place, it started pouring rain. I got soaked. But I got the damn door on the shed.
I stood there looking at it longer than any reasonable person should. Not because I was proud of the door, but because it reminded me of something.

Normally, I would have called my ex-husband to fix it. I didn’t. That mattered more than the door.

The last 18 months brought things I never saw coming—divorce, health challenges, emotional struggles, financial issues, and trying to get my home sold. There were days when even small tasks felt impossible. Days when every little thing seemed so damn hard.
But confidence doesn’t return all at once. It comes back in tiny pieces.
A procrastinated phone call.
A dog walk.
A conversation.
A shower.
A completed task.
A shed door.
We often think confidence comes first, then action follows. I’ve found it’s the opposite. Action creates evidence. Evidence rebuilds confidence.
And sometimes, progress isn’t glamorous. Sometimes it’s sweaty. Sometimes it’s just putting a door on a shed in the rain.
And honestly? Some days, that’s enough.
