Room in Alameda Victorian with Magical Garden. Dog OK!
We have a comfortable, furnished bedroom for ONE person with a work/ school/ activity schedule that has one away in the mornings This room comes furnished with a solid mahogany dresser with mirror, nightstand, desk, and chair and a queen-sized bed. If you prefer to use your own furnishings, let us know. The room measures 11' X 13' with a South facing window and a closet. We have two full bathrooms, and you may choose your preferred primary bathroom.
We are conveniently located within a few blocks of South Shore Shopping Center, Alameda Beach, Park St. shopping, dining, theater, City Car-share, buses and tons of other amenities. The San Francisco bus is about a 12-minute walk from our house, and the ferries to the City are biking distance as is the Fruitvale BART station. This is a very safe street, which ends on the lagoon, with healthy, drama-free interactions between neighbors in a great walking/ biking neighborhood.
Creative types such as performers, musicians, dancers, craftspeople, gardeners and artists would be especially happy here. We are open to a housemate of any age. You may have an overnight visitor up to 2 nights a week if you like. We welcome you to enjoy the company of our two friendly and quiet, small dogs and friendly, mostly outside Siberian (hypoallergenic) cat who is intolerant of other cats. Because of allergies, no more cats, please! Our Housemate Kade has a Pibble mix who is very sweet, she visits a few days out of the month. We are open to a dog who gets along with our dogs, and either likes, or ignores cats. Our pooches are used to lots of doggy play dates with bigger dogs, and our garden is designed as a doggy par course in disguise. We have a little pond by the gazebo which is great for observing life and meditating, The gazebo also functions as our outdoor living room. If you just want a room and to keep to yourself all of the time, this might not be the best fit.
We are middle-aged and have adult children in their early 20's. Politically we are unapologetic Liberals and prefer to live with people who have an aware worldview.
Koichi, originally from Southern Japan, works as a sushi chef nearby. He loves all kinds of sports and would enjoy company watching. When we barbecue, he's usually the grill-master and the consummate host extraordinaire. He also keeps the garden looking tidy.
Jasmine has a small hair studio in the back and sells antiques online, and at Lost City Antiques on Park St. She is a bit of a Renaissance woman, sometimes social, sometimes solo, who enjoys cooking, gardening, sailing, travel, craft projects, tinkering and inventing things, Middle Eastern dance and drumming, LARP, and hosting friends at barbecues and parties.
Kade, our other housemate is in his 40's, is a very easygoing gay man who works as a hydrologist, and goes camping at every opportunity, sings with the SF Gay man's chorus and has decorated our front porch with his collection of plants. He is the pibble, Mari's part-time dad.
Evening jams with friends in the living room, dancing on our mahogany dining room floor, big screen for the Big Game or binge-watching with your friends, puttering in the garden, (perhaps transforming our front lawn into something new?) cocooning on the couch by the fire in the Winter, dining on the deck, meditating or morning coffee in the gazebo/ outdoor living room/greenhouse are some good ways to relax here. The kitchen has pretty much anything a person could want as we cook most meals from scratch. We are planning on hosting a few concerts in the garden events when the weather warms up and periodically hold gardening workshops. Outside smoking is OK and 420 friendly.
Rent is $1100 a month with an $1100 deposit. This includes all utilities, Xfinity with HBO, Showtime The Tennis Channel, and Japanese programming, WiFi, paper goods, laundry, coffee, shared parking in our driveway, and harvest of food grown on our property, which has the perimeter planted with 20 different fruit trees which collectively bear fruit year-round. Musicians may claim some space on our dining room floor for their instruments. There is a covered area in back for creative projects as well. Extra storage can be arranged. The room is available now, and a mutually good fit is important to us. Please respond with your phone number so we can talk before setting up a showing.
Thanks, Jasmine, Koichi and Kade
