Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero has filed a bill that would lift the real property tax (RPT) on shared areas in condominiums and subdivisions, a move he said could lower monthly dues for millions of middle-class families, Manila Bulletin reported.
Under Senate Bill 2569, hallways, lobbies, parks and other common areas that do not earn income would no longer be taxed. Spaces used for business would still pay the tax, so the exemption would cover only facilities that residents share.
