Here are 5 principles:
# # # 1. HE KNOWS HE DOESN'T KNOW EVERYTHING
A humble man does not pretend to know it all.
- He listens more than he talks
- He asks for advice from his wife, elders, juniors - he can learn from a gateman
- He can say "I was wrong, I'm sorry" and "I don't know, teach me"
> Pride says "I know". Humility says "I want to learn". That is why humble men grow faster in business and life.
# # # 2. HE GIVES CREDIT, HE TAKES BLAME
Pride does opposite - takes credit, gives blame.
- Humble man praises his team, his wife, his staff publicly: "We did it" not "I did it"
- When things fail, he doesn't blame everybody - he says "I take responsibility, how do we fix it?"
- He doesn't need to announce his achievements - his work speaks
A man who always says "I, I, I" chases people away. A man who says "We" attracts people.
# # # 3. HE RESPECTS EVERYONE, NOT JUST POWERFUL PEOPLE
True test of character is how you treat those who can do nothing for you.
- He greets the cleaner same way he greets the CEO
- He doesn't use money, muscle or position to intimidate
- He doesn't look down on anyone because of tribe, job, or poor background
> In Nigeria we say "Respect is not fear." A humble man is respected because he respects others.
# # # 4. HE IS TEACHABLE AND CORRECTABLE
A humble man allows correction.
- If his mother, wife, friend, pastor corrects him, he doesn't get angry and shout "Who are you to correct me?"
- He controls his anger and ego
- He works on his weaknesses - anger, lust, laziness, wasteful spending - instead of hiding them
Pride makes a man uncorrectable, and uncorrectable man cannot grow. The strongest man is not the one who never falls, but one who allows others to lift him.
# # # 5. HE SERVES AND LIVES WITHIN HIS MEANS
Humility shows in service and simplicity.
- He serves his family - he can wash plates, sweep house, help his wife, carry his child without feeling "less of a man"
- He doesn't live fake life to impress social media - he doesn't borrow to buy Benz when his business needs capital
- He remembers God/source - he knows life is grace, not just his power. So he is grateful, not boastful.
> The Bible says "God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble". Even outside religion - life itself resists proud men.
# # # IN SHORT:
*A humble man is:*
- Strong enough to be gentle
- Rich enough to be simple
- Wise enough to listen
- Big enough to say sorry
Humbleness does not make a man weak - it makes him trusted. And in business, marriage, and leadership, trust is the real currency.
