HOW DO YOU KNOW IF A REAL ESTATE AGENT IS RELIABLE?

One of the biggest concerns property buyers face is knowing whom to trust.

With so many property advertisements and investment offers online, how can a buyer distinguish a professional, transparent agent from someone who simply wants a quick payment?

Here are few things I believe every property buyer should assess:

1. Verifiable identity: Know who you're dealing with.

2. Property knowledge: Ask questions about the exact property and its location.

3. Documentation: Establish what documents are available and arrange independent verification.

4. Transparency: Understand the price, fees and payment terms.

5. Inspection: Make sure the property can be appropriately inspected.

6. Professional communication: Be cautious of unexplained pressure to pay immediately.

7. Clear responsibilities: Know who owns the property, who is authorised to sell it and what role the agent plays.

A professional property transaction should allow room for questions, verification and informed decision-making.

And one important distinction: A registered business, an attractive social media profile or a confident sales pitch is not proof that a specific property is safe to purchase.
The property and the transaction must be independently checked.
