Thank you to the St. Vincent De Paul staff at the Drop in Centre at Hartstonge Street for inviting me to see their operations yesterday.

The service they deliver to some of the most vulnerable people in Limerick is invaluable- they help so many people, including an increasing number of working people who simply can’t pay their bills.

Speaking to staff, it is clear just how much of a burden the rising cost of living is placing on families. People from all backgrounds need these services.

Thank you again to the staff for their warm welcome and for the incredible non-judgemental support they offer to those who are in need.

Betrayal hurts differently when it comes from people you never thought you would have to protect yourself from.

It is one thing to be disappointed by a stranger, but it is something else entirely when the people you trusted like family show you that your place in their lives was never what you thought it was.

You remember the times you stood by them, the things you shared, and all the reasons you believed they would never be the ones to hurt you. That is what makes the truth so hard to accept.

But sometimes, the betrayal is what finally opens your eyes. It shows you who was genuine, who was only there when it suited them, and who you kept making excuses for because you cared too much to see the truth.

And as painful as it is, losing the version of them you believed in can be the beginning of seeing things clearly.

Not every person you call family is meant to stay in your life forever. Some people teach you what loyalty looks like by showing you exactly what it is not.

Sometimes, the betrayal is the blessing because it gives you a reason to walk away from people you would have kept making room for.
