Our journey began in 1988 with a small team working from a former Scout hut overlooking By Brook Valley. Today, CMS Group has grown into an established consultancy, bringing architecture, project management and surveying expertise together under one roof.

A key milestone came in 2013, when we restructured to form The CMS Group, bringing together CMS Architects Ltd and CMS Project Managers & Surveyors Ltd. This helped strengthen our specialist services while keeping our collaborative approach at the heart of everything we do.

While plenty has changed since those early days, what matters most hasn’t.

We still believe in providing exceptional service, building lasting relationships and creating spaces that make a real difference to people’s lives and businesses.

We’re proud of how far we’ve come, grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey, and excited about what comes next.

Peter’s been here, there and everywhere lately! 😅

Another week, another new networking event! Last week, Peter headed to The Developers Network Bristol for the first time, joining property professionals at the fantastic The Clifton Club.

The session focused on planning, with Mark Cullen and Matt Halstead from Crossman Planning Consultancy sharing their expertise on the planning side of property development.

And the venue? A little piece of Bristol history! Originally commissioned by John Lewis in 1807 as the Clifton Hotel and Assembly Rooms, it was designed by architect Francis Greenway. Not a bad place to spend a morning networking!

Hosted by James Adams, the event was a great chance to meet new people, share ideas and make connections across Bristol’s property development community.

Peter’s calendar is certainly getting a workout at the moment, we might have to start tracking his mileage! 😂

Recently Peter enjoyed attending the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Group Property Breakfast, hosted by Awdry Law LLP at their Swindon offices.

It was a great opportunity to catch up with property professionals, share ideas and hear different perspectives on the commercial and residential property markets.

We always value opportunities to connect with others across the industry, learn from their experiences and build relationships that last beyond the event.

On Tuesday, Paul had the opportunity to attend the Inside Ashton Court Mansion tour for the built environment sector.

It was a great chance to explore this historic Bristol landmark and appreciate the architecture and heritage that make buildings like Ashton Court so special.

Taking the time to understand the stories behind our historic buildings is an important part of recognising their value and the role they continue to play in our communities.

Yesterday, we were delighted to sponsor the Constructing Excellence Swindon & Wiltshire – Meet the Team Evening Event at Lydiard Park Hotel.

Nestled within the grounds of a Grade II* listed home in the Cotswolds, Bruern Abbey Orangery is a great example of how thoughtful design can complement a historic setting.

With a site history stretching back to a 12th-century Cistercian monastery, the Orangery was designed to sit naturally alongside the Georgian house, drawing on the Palladian style of its south elevation.

From the carefully proportioned glazing and detailed stonework to the balanced garden landscaping, every element helps the new space feel connected to its surroundings.

CMS Group provided architecture, project management and quantity surveying, supporting the project from detailed design through to delivery. Our role covered everything from cost planning and procurement to programme management, contract administration and building regulations.

The result is a beautiful garden retreat that respects the past while serving a clear purpose today.

Yesterday, Paul attended the Southern Construction Framework Bristol Market Engagement Event, hosted by Mace at We The Curious.

The event explored upcoming opportunities through the framework, with interactive discussions covering collaboration, leadership, building relationships and innovation in housing.

It was also a great chance to catch up with familiar faces from across Bristol’s construction and property community and make new connections.

Recently, Peter attended the Constructing Excellence South West Bath Committee Roundtable Breakfast at The Bird, Bath.

The morning brought together professionals from across the industry for some really interesting conversations around AI, smart buildings, energy infrastructure, sustainability and project delivery.

A few key takeaways included:
Technology should deliver real, measurable value.
Long-term performance needs to remain a priority.
Better data can lead to smarter decisions.
Early collaboration can improve project outcomes.

A great morning of networking in Cirencester!

Yesterday, Peter attended the launch of Total Business Network Wiltshire & Cotswolds at The Kings Head, Cirencester.

A relaxed morning of good conversations, familiar faces and plenty of new connections.

TBN is all about bringing local businesses together, building genuine relationships and creating opportunities and the table-swap format certainly made it easy to meet plenty of people along the way!
