Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to listen, learn and reflect.
The Apiary CoWork is located in St. Catharines on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, Attiwonderonk and Mississauga peoples. We acknowledge the Indigenous Peoples who have cared for these lands for generations and who continue to live, work and contribute to this community today.
When we were designing The Apiary CoWork, we thought intentionally about what it means to create a space where people feel seen, heard and connected. One of the elements we chose was the round table in our Magnolia Room.
We were inspired by what we have learned from Indigenous teachings about circles and gathering: the importance of listening, equality, relationship, storytelling and creating space for every voice.
We also recognize that Indigenous Nations, cultures and teachings are distinct, and that meaningful learning requires humility, curiosity and continued relationship.
For us, the circle is a reminder that community is not about hierarchy. It is about coming together, sharing perspectives, listening deeply and recognizing the value each person brings.
Truth and reconciliation require more than acknowledgement. They ask us to continue learning, to understand the history of the land beneath our feet, to listen to Indigenous voices, and to consider how we can contribute to reconciliation through our choices and actions.
Today, we honour the Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities, and the children who never returned home.
May we continue to listen. May we continue to learn. And may we continue to build community with greater intention, respect and care.
