Kitchen Week delivered some of the strongest VELUX moments on The Block so far.

All five kitchens featured opening VELUX skylights, with several teams also bringing daylight into their butler’s pantries using fixed skylights.

What stood out to us was how different the solutions were from house to house. Three larger skylights above an island in some kitchens, two smaller units in another, plus separate pantry skylights where daylight was the main priority.

That is the useful takeaway for a real renovation. There is no single “kitchen skylight” formula. Placement, ventilation, blinds, cabinetry, lighting and the way the room is used all matter.

And if the kitchen is already finished, installation care matters too. Protecting benchtops, cabinetry and other internal surfaces, then cleaning up properly afterwards, is part of doing the job well.

Five ensuites. Five different layouts. One thing they all had in common, VELUX skylights.

This week on The Block, every house used skylights to bring natural light into spaces where privacy and ventilation also matter.

Houses 1, 2, 3 and 5 combined fixed VELUX skylights with an opening solar skylight, while House 4 took a different approach with three fixed skylights. House 5 went on to take out the winning ensuite.

What we found more interesting was how each layout responded to the room and roof around it.

Where should the daylight fall? Would an opening skylight help with ventilation? What does the roof structure actually allow? And how will the shaft and ceiling treatment affect the finished result?

We’ve taken a closer look at all five rooms, with a few practical observations from an installer’s point of view.

All five houses brought natural light into their walk-in robes this week on The Block, but they didn’t all approach it the same way.

Houses 1 and 2 had to work around the roof structure, while Houses 4 and 5 used three VELUX Fixed Skylights to make the daylight part of the room’s design.

It’s a good reminder that skylight placement isn’t just about choosing a product. Roof framing, room proportions, shaft design and spacing can all influence what will work best.

Courtney & Sev’s family bathroom took out the win on The Block this week.

One of the features that stood out was the VELUX FCM 3046 fixed skylight bringing light down into the middle of the room.
