Does it earn its place within the space?
I loved this question from Jodie.
Because when we start putting together a lighting plan, it can be easy to think of every lighting requirement as needing another fitting.
One for task lighting.
One for ambient light.
Another for accent.
But as Jodie explained during Light in Context, one fitting can potentially do more than one job.
The question becomes less about how many lights we can put into a room and more about understanding what each fitting is actually doing.
What does it illuminate?
How does it make the room feel?
Does it provide the light you actually need?
And ultimately, does it earn its place?
I think that is such a good lens for looking at a lighting plan before adding another fitting simply because there is space for one.
Save this for when you’re working through your lighting plan.
