The Opus: 10 facts about Zaha Hadid's iconic project

➊ The project concept was unveiled in 2007. Developed by Omniyat, construction took place from 2012 to 2020.

➋ This is the only building in Dubai fully designed by Zaha Hadid. The architect personally created both the exterior and interior.

➌ Zaha Hadid (1950–2016) was an Iraqi-born architect and designer. She was the first woman to receive the Pritzker Prize. Her style was characterised by dynamic forms and unconventional geometry.

➍ The project's name refers to the Latin term Magnum Opus – 'the most significant work'.

➎ The building is designed as an ice-like glass cube. At its centre is a fluid void – the defining architectural element of The Opus.

➏ The opening is formed by 4,300 glass panels. Each element is unique.

HOW DUBAI WILL TRANSFORM BY 2040

Dubai's Supreme Committee for Urban Planning has unveiled its vision for the emirate's development up to 2040.

➊ The metro network will cover more than 228km², with the number of stations rising to 140. In April 2026, the first fully underground 42km Gold Line was approved.

➋ Residents will get around the city using air taxis. Flight prices will be comparable to Uber Black fares.

➌ By 2027, Elon Musk's Dubai Loop tunnel network will also be launched.

11,599 property transactions worth $7.6 billion were completed in Dubai.

Transaction activity saw a 38% contraction in volume and a 45% dip in total value relative to August 2025 levels.
